Emory Valley Center, a non-profit agency assisting people with intellectual disabilities throughout Anderson, Morgan and Knox Counties, has provided employment services since 1975 to our clientele.
It has been our experience that persons with disabilities WANT to work, earn money and increase their independence. Statistics show that when given a chance, they are rarely absent and strive harder to meet employer standards. These potential employees VALUE their jobs.
One reason holding a job is so important is a feeling of accomplishment and then most importantly…self worth. Work builds self-esteem and when you feel good about yourself, it generally shows through good work performance.
How This Program Works…
Our Supported Employment provides a trained job coach to assist with on-the-job training, supervise the individual as they learn their new job duties, and help them with complex work tasks. The goal is to gradually decrease the job coach assistance and allow the person to work with minimal supervision. Our Supported Employment staff continually visit the worksite to assure the employer is satisfied with the work performed by the employee and assist in resolving an concerns.
Does This Service Cost The Employer?
NO, it does not! We cover the cost of the worker’s compensation for the job coach. If we find that the person needs adaptive equipment, uniforms or other items to help them perform their job, we will supply them. Let us help staff your employment needs!
Tax incentives could be available…many times we can help employers apply for tax credits if the person hired has never been employed and is successful on their job in accordance with the guidelines established by the federal government. Learn more about tax credits further down this page.

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit
The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a Federal tax credit incentive that the U.S. Government provides to private-sector businesses for hiring individuals from nine target groups who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment. The main objective of this program is to enable the targeted employees to gradually move from economic dependency into self-sufficiency as they earn a steady income and become contributing taxpayers, while the participating employers are compensated by being able to reduce their federal income tax liability. WOTC joins other workforce programs that help incentivize workplace diversity and facilitate access to good jobs for American workers.
